Hello BIOL 116 Students! For those of you who are new to campus, welcome to CWRU. The University is thrilled to have you join the campus. I look forward to meeting you in August. Below are some FAQs about the class.
Question |
Answer |
When will the syllabus be posted? |

Are there recommended materials? |
I highly recommend having a hard copy or loose leaf text. You can purchase this used (e.g. from a former nursing student, online, or bookstore). Please note that if you purchase a hard copy or loose leaf text, you still need to purchase the Connect Access Card (see “required materials” above). If you’re not sure you want to invest in a hardcopy text, you can hold off buying one, but you must have Connect Access on the first day of class (see above). Bundle option: For students who wish to purchase a new loose leaf text and CONNECT, the bundle option may be the most cost effective. |
Do I really need the required materials and iclicker+ remote? | Yes! You will get your money’s worth out of these materials. They will be instrumental to your success in BIOL 116 and 117. |
Can I use the 2nd edition of the book, instead of the 3rd? | The e-book on CONNECT automatically comes with the 3rd edition. If you choose to purchase a hardcopy 2nd edition it is reasonably close to the 3rd edition. However, please note that all readings, pre-class work, etc. will come from the 3rd edition. Therefore, if you choose to use the 2nd edition hard copy text or loose leaf, you are responsible for finding the relevant sections. If you purchase the 2nd edition hard copy text, you will still need to purchase Connect Access (see above) |
Can I purchase a used iclicker? |
Yes, you may. If you can, verify that the 8 digit remote ID (series of numbers and letters) on the back of the remote. Sometimes this gets rubbed off and you need this code to register the remote. See syllabus on Canvas for directions of how to register the clicker. |
I would like to begin preparing for the class. Do you have any suggestions? |
