Quantz, Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen (Berlin, 1752)
Note: Neither Hotteterre nor Freillon-Poncein show any syllables for double-tonguing. Quantz’s syllables, did’ll, show a kind of swallowing of the second half of the pattern, so that the air escapes around the sides of the tongue, creating a much softer articulation and allowing tremendous speed. This example shows the standard pattern for double-tonguing.

Quantz, Versuch einer Anweisung die Flöte traversiere zu spielen (Berlin, 1752)
Note: This shows how Quantz breaks the pattern for leaps, using a harder articulation for the note of arrival after the leap.

Quantz, Manuscript exercises with autograph tonguings
Note: This is an interesting example from Quantz’s manuscript articulations. Omitting the syllable on the notes of arrival, to me implies that there is a simple release of air, like did’ll’a, which can work for this kind of figure at extremely fast tempos.
